Ngurdoto crater, Momela lakes and Mount Meru

Arusha National Park is a mountainous park famous for its biodiversity. Inside the park you can find different ecosystems such as: plains, lakes, and forests, and in those ecosystems you can find an array of animals, including: giraffes, zebras, buffalos, antelopes, and many others.

Description

Arusha National Park is truly a multi-faceted jewel, offering the opportunity to explore a wide diversity of habitats contained within the park. The entrance gate leads to the mountain forests inhabited by colobus monkeys and colorful turacos. At the edge of the forest appears the beautiful Ngurdoto Crater, where between steep cliffs is located a lush habitat where herds of warthogs and buffalo roam. In the north, rolling green hills surround the true beauty of the Momela Lakes. Their shallows are tinged pink with thousands of flamingos between September and October, in addition to the rich selection of resident and migrant waterfowl in the lake ecosystems. During the game drive you can easily spot giraffes, zebra herds, wildebeests, a lot of monkeys and cute dik-dik. In early morning and late afternoon, when the cloud cover to the East disperses, you can sometimes catch a glimpse of the wonderful Kilimanjaro snow-capped peaks, 50 km to the East. Another sight is Mount Meru - one of the tallest mountains in Africa (4566 m.) – which dominates the park. Both Mount Meru’s peaks and Eastern footslopes are contained within the national park. Mount Meru offers unparalleled views of its famous neighbor, while also forming a rewarding hiking destination in its own right.
